Severn Valley Railway’s Display Coach

The Stove R Coach number 2886 was bought by the Severn Valley Railway in the early 1970s. After a few years in service it stood unused for many years but recently it was reconditioned as a Display Vehicle for the Falling Sands Viaduct Repair Project as part of a Heritage Lottery Grant. In particular it was to commemorate the men [Navvies] who built the railway. The coach is equipped with Audios and Books about Navvy life and the men who financed it all. Two short videos help to tell the story.

There are interactive items especially for children to smell and feel related objects. A Victorian Mutoscope is installed which shows trains going over viaducts or barrels being loaded onto wagons. Our most recent addition is a display board showing the different types of stone used in the built structures on the line.

The Coach will be at Kidderminster Station for visitors to look around during August.
